Peter Burns - This web site contains a wealth of old photos from bygone days of the Village.

Ron Wright is an author of local history books on the North East of England which have an appeal outside of the local area. His first book, "Beyond the Piers" was published in August, 2002 and his second book "The History of Cullercoats" is due for publication in October 2002.

Frank Gillings - Stunning collection of local photos, and has a very good local history section on Cullercoats and the coast

Winslow Homer (1836-1910) was a self-taught American painter, considered a master of watercolors. Homer began as an illustrator and chronicled the Civil War for Harper's Weekly. Following the war he concentrated on light subjects and pastoral scenes. After a stay in the English fishing village of Cullercoats in 1881-82, his pictures became more dramatic and began to emphasize marine subjects. He is now considered one of the great painters of the sea.

Robert Jobling (1841 - 1923)
Robert Jobling was a former shipyard-worker who at the age of 27 became a full time artist. He had started exhibiting his paintings when he was 25, but it took a further two years to become well enough established. Later he moved to Whitley, very close to Cullercoats the place that featured in a great number of his paintings.

The American Army in Cullercoats during WWll...The primary history of the 225th AAA Searchlight Battalion (Semimobile) was prepared in 1945 following the cessation of hostilities. The history follows the battalion from its date of activation, through an icy winter at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois; a hot, wet summer in the swamps of Pender County, North Carolina; six months in England; and plenty of action from D+12 through V-E Day in its march across France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and deep into Germany with the Allied armies. No other searchlight battalion and few other combat organizations can claim a record the equal of the 225th. The battalion was dispersed across as many as three countries at one time as it fought its way into Germany, and, on occasion, saw combat from the First and Ninth Army areas in the north, through the Third Army area, and into the Seventh Army area to the south.
